Wow, I just asked for that today, and you've already acted on it! Wunnerful! :^} As I said earlier, the one thing I miss with the Windows Live Mail beta is that I can't have it on my desktop like other email clients! YAY! Thank you, thank you, thank you! It will be much appreciated by all and sundry, I'm sure.

By "superset" do you mean features or actual codebase and underlying storage system? Or is this a Windows Live specific smart client?
Does this mean that Windows Mail and Windows Calendar won't see as much (if any) integration with Windows Live?
Or should I just wait till tomorrow for answers? ;)
PS: It is interesting that those screenshots look more like what one would think of as a Longhorn/Vista app (at least back in the PDC 2003 days) than the one actually shipping with Vista.

Great! But...
does this imply Windows Mail will not support Windows Live Mail? The need for Windows Live Mail Desktop seem to imply so...
If so, they should do this in Windows Mail and not in a separate program. It just makes me feel that MS is going for more Windows Live names...
P.S. ummm since the majority of users don't have a POP3 or IMAP e-mail account, explain the uses of Windows Mail? or would it just becomes yet another MS redundant product...?

How do you figure that? I would say that the opposite is true, as the vast majority of ISPs (certainly in the UK anyway) POP3 email as a standard, and GMAIL supports the use of POP3 too.

Also, rememeber it's still in pre-beta stage, and that it's only been distributed to about 100-150 people. If you're using a non-legitimate copy of it, this can also cause troubles because you need to be allowed to use the service, as with Windows Live Messenger.

This NG is for Windows Vista Windows Mail. If you have issues with Windows Live, then you need to direct those issues to the appropriate beta NGs for that product. This is the wrong place.

I have a legitimate copy of the live mail desktop. I am using Windows XP version 2002 SP2. I have already got all the emails which were on my windows live account but now whenever i go on to the WLMD it gives me this error. I can send emails but i cant receive any email because of synchronization error.

Also, rememeber it's still in pre-beta stage, and that it's only been distributed to about 100-150 people. If you're using a non-legitimate copy of it, this can also cause troubles because you need to be allowed to use the service, as with Windows Live Messenger.

Winmail.exe is not Windows Live Mail Desktop, it's Windows Mail in Vista.
